Previous Tip click here USFamily Tip of the Week - 09/05/01 As school starts, summer light fades, and cool weather moves us all indoors, the Internet becomes more popular. To keep up with that demand we do a major upgrade each fall. This year's upgrade is in progress and should be available very soon, perhaps as soon as next week. All our equipment is in place and ready for the phone company to finish its interconnection magic. Limit Usage If Possible Until our new modem pool kicks in, please limit your internet time to just what you need. We are presently near our max capacity and the heavier, lower priority users are being interrupted by the typical users when the system get full between 8 and 11pm. Since the low priority users are using more and paying less per hour that may well be entirely fair but just be aware and be kind if you can. If you are a heavy low priority user then avoid 8-11pm when you can and switch to the new modem pool as soon as we give out the new number. Monday and Tuesday nights are the heaviest Internet usage nights. http://www.usfamily.net/faq.html#priority State Fair Wrap-up Thank you all for another fantastic State Fair engagement. Our booth in the High Tech building was a wonderful hit and we loved talking to all our loyal customers. It was also great to help some of you in person instead of just by phone. As always if you know someone that missed us you can send them a free setup kit at http://www.usfamily.net/referral.html SPAM SPAM and more SPAM! USFamily.Net implemented automatic SPAM (unsolicited bulk commercial
email) filtering a number of months ago as we noticed a continued upturn in the
amount of SPAM entering our domain. Today we process between 1 and 2 million emails
a month and almost 10% of that email is eliminated, as SPAM from known SPAM sites, before
it reaches your mailbox. You can always view all the SPAM screened from you in our
SPAM viewer. SPAM originates from many International locations and from poorly
administrated and unsuspecting business servers (known as open relays) which are easily
hacked by SPAMmers. If legitimate email comes from these servers the sender receives a
return email telling them what to do to get their email through our SPAM filtering to
you. We find many people fail to read and follow the simple instructions but we are
happy to help them, or you, in that rare instance. Most businesses eventually
appreciate finding out their servers have been hijacked for use by SPAMmers.
Remember, if an important email fails to get to you because the sending site has been
screened for SPAMing it is easy for the sender to resolve the problem or you can view that
email in our SPAM viewer. http://www.usfamily.net/tip-2001-02-03.html Still Learning to use the Internet? Need to find your address book, set up a mailing list, or use a search engine?
