Reinstalling networking and your connection

Things you need:

  1. Windows CD or computer restore CD
  2. Our USFamily.Net Diskette
  3. Make sure NOT to put them in until prompted for them!

Step 1 - delete all former internet connections

  1. Go to My Computer
  2. Go in to Dial Up Networking
  3. Delete everything except Make New Connection

Step 2 - delete connection manager and usfamily.net

  1. Go to My Computer
  2. Go to control Panel
  3. Go in to Add/Remove Programs
  4. Remove "connection Manager"
  5. Remove "USFamily.net"

Step 3. - delete networking

  1. Go to My Computer
  2. Control Panel
  3. Go in to Networking
  4. Remove everything (Note This may mess up a connection with a current ISP.
  5. After removing everything click OK (Note "It will say updating and then it will ask to restart")
  6. Click "OK" to restart

Step 4. - reinstall usfamily.net diskette

  1. Insert the usfamily.net Diskette.
  2. Go to My Computer
  3. Go to Floppy drive A
  4. Go to Setup (not ie5setup)
  5. Press enter for each question.

Step 5. - Load Networking

  1. Go to  USFamily.Net "rocket" on your desktop and click connect.
  2. Windows will detect missing components and load networking.
  3. You may be prompted to put in your windows CD.
  4. You will be asked to reboot once networking is loaded.

Step 6.  - make sure networking installed ok

  1. Go to My Computer
  2. Go to Control Panel
  3. Go to Networking
  4. Check to make sure that there is only one TCP/IP, and one "Dial-Up Adapter".
  5. If there are more then one of anything just remove the extras and reboot.
  6. Try connecting to USFamily.net using the "rocket" on your desktop

Step 6.  -Try to connect

  1. Go to  USFamily.Net "rocket" on your desktop and click connect.

 

Reinstalling A Modem


If you did not receive the modem from us you need to get support from whoever the modem was purchased from.

Here are the typical instructions for replacing a modem.

First delete all modems

If your modem drivers are not a standard part of windows you will need the driver disk from the modem manufacturer! If you don't have it  we suggest you just request a replacement modem from us.

  1. double click my computer
  2. double click control panel
  3. double click system
  4. click the Device Manager tab
  5. click the + in front of modems
  6. highlight each modem and click remove.
  7. Windows will automatically find and reinstall your modem as long as it is a plug and play device.  If not, follow your modem install manual.
