Major League Umpires From the Northern League






Lou DiMuro

He was born on April 24, 1932, in Brooklyn.

Lou umpired in the Northern League in 1956 and other minor leagues from 1955 and 1957-62. He was an American League umpire from 1963-80.

Lou died on June 7, 1982, in Arlington, TX.



Bruce Froemming

He was born on September 28, 1939, in Milwaukee.

Bruce umpired in the Northern League in 1959 and 1960. He was a minor league umpire from 1958-70 and a major league umpire starting in 1971. Bruce is still an active umpire in the majors and in August 2006 umpired his 5,000th game. Fromming is second to only Bill Klem in major league games.


Ken Kaiser

He was born on July 26, 1945, in Rochester, NY.

Ken umpired in the Northern League in 1967 and other minor leagues in 1965-66 and 1968-76. He was a major league umpire in 1977 to 1999.

He lives in Rochester.


Andy Olsen

He was born on November 30, 1931, in Brooklyn.

Andy umpired in the Northern League from 1960 through 1962. He was an ump in the minor leagues from 1959-68. Andy umpired in the majors from 1968-81.

He lives in St. Petersburg, FL.


Marty Springstead

He was born in Nyack, NY, on July 9, 1937.

Marty umpired in the Northern League in 1960 and other minor leagues in 1963-65. He was in the military in 1961-62. His major league umpiring began in 1966 and it ended in 1986.

He lives in Sarasota, FL.


Terry Tata

He was born on April 24, 1940, in Waterbury, CT.

Terry umpired in the Northern League from 1961 through 1964. He was a minor league umpire from 1960-72. He began his major league assignment in 1973 and it lasted until at least 1998.

He lives in Cheshire, CT.
