SPRING CLEANING FOR YOUR BROWSER -
CLEAR OUT YOUR TEMPORARY FILES

A clean Internet browser will function at a higher rate of efficiency.  Your web browser uses space on your computer's hard drive to store each Web page that you view.  This is a process called "caching".  This allows your browser to load recently viewed web pages at a faster rate, then downloading them from the web every time you visit a web page.

"Caching" is a good way to save time while you are surfing, but here are downsides to keeping all of those temporary files on your hard drive - they can take up a ton of disk space and cause your computer to process at a much slower rate.  And sometimes they can end up being corrupted and cause your browser to incorrectly function, or to not function at all! 

That's why it is a wise idea to clear them out every once in a while.  This will help to keep your computer processing at an optimum level and will prevent old temporary files from becoming corrupt.

To clear our your temporary files, please follow these instructions:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (Windows): Open a browser window and click on the Tools menu and select Internet Options.  In the Temporary Internet Files tab, click the Delete Files button.  Then check the box labeled Delete all offline content and then click OK.

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer (Macintosh): Open a browser window and click on the Edit menu and select Preferences.  In the left hand pane, click Advanced under the Web Browser heading.  To the right, under the Cache section, click the Empty Now button.  Click OK when you're finished.

  • Netscape Navigator (Windows & Macintosh): Open a browser window and click the Edit menu and select Preferences.  Under the Advanced heading in the left pane, click Cache (if you do not see any entries under Advanced, click the small plus sign or arrow beside the word Advanced). To the right, click the Clear Disk Cache Now button.  Click OK when you are finished.
