Dialup Accelerator:
The Accelerator is an innovative acceleration program for your dialup
connection. It works with your Metro Provider dial-up
connection, allowing you to surf the Web up to 5 times faster.
How does the Accelerator work?
Compression: The acceleration service delivers text and graphics more
efficiently, using compression that encodes web-pages.
Caching: Accelerator intelligently retains and re-uses web pages and page
elements that have previously been sent to the PC.
Optimize TCP/IP Connections: The acceleration service uses proprietary
techniques to optimize the communication between accelerator and the network.
Content Filtering: Accelerator lets you block unsolicited content, such
as pop-up ads and in-page ads, which can contribute to long wait times.
What kind of acceleration can I expect?

Web pages load up to two times faster on first visits.

Web pages load three to five times faster on subsequent visits.
·
90% of Web pages load in under seven seconds! Compared to 30% of Web
pages without the Metro Provider Accelerator.

Web pages that previously took almost 30 seconds to load, can now be
viewed in less than seven seconds, on average, and sometimes even faster.
What will be Accelerated?
·
All text – HTML, markup, and javascript
·
Most Graphics & Photos – including jpeg and gif images
·
Most banner ads – including animated gif images and Macromedia
Flash content
·
All browser-based e-mails
·
All emails that contain images – even when read in a dedicated
e-mail program
·
MP3 files, executables & other files – when downloaded from within
your web browser (depending on the quality of your connection).
What will not be Accelerated?
Most Web content will be accelerated, but there are certain exceptions:

Streaming media, and audio and video files
·
Secure pages, such as those used for online banking and credit card forms
and pages accessed over VPN
·
Files downloaded outside your browser using FTP
Will the Accelerator work on my computer?
Operating Systems: Available for Microsoft Windows 98 & above or
Macintosh 10.2.
Connections: Will work with any low-speed Internet connection under
200Kbps, including dial-up and ISDN.
Utilities: Compatible with other ad blockers, pop-up stoppers, personal
firewalls, and other utilities.
Browsers Supported: Internet Explorer 5.0 or later, Netscape 4.7 or
later, Opera and Mozilla.
